Bird flu pandemic may claim 2-7 mln human lives worldwide - WHO
MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - A bird flu pandemic could result in 2-7 million human deaths across the globe, a senior World Health Organization official in Russia said Thursday. Mary Collins, acting head of the office of the WHO Director General's special representative in Russia, said bird flu could sweep the world in the next six months, as the virus continues to mutate. Collins, attending training at the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in preparation for the possible pandemic, said control had to be increased over human-to-human spread of the virus, and warned that infection could take unpredictable forms.
